Marc Chagall (b. 1887 in Peskowatik near Witebsk/Russia, d. 1985 in Saint-Paul-de-Vence/France) is considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He created paintings and a large etchings and lithographic work. His works show an uncommon narrative and poetic world, which he draws from from the mystique of the Jewish faith and the legends of Russian folk art.
